Alfred Nobel made his fame through the invention of dynamite, Nobel found that when nitroglycerin was incorporated into an inert substance it became safer & more convenient to handle. This explosive was perfect for blasting holes in mining operations, speeding up operation time & increasing the output & capacity of mines around the world. Dynamite also had a more sinister use as an explosive in weaponry which noble himself was ashamed of, this led to Alfred creating the Nobel prize award in his will, setting aside 31,225,000 Swedish kronor (£1,687,837) for awards in physics, chemistry, medical sciences, literary work & the 5th prize for the person society renders the greatest service to the cause of peace.
